Days in Massachusetts was unforgettable, we had wonderful times in Harvard University. A bountiful of academic resources is remarkable, as they had most systematic means in conserving, categorising and citing millions of documented textual, visual and verbal materials.

The funding policy of Harvard University towards scholars is impressive. The scholar-oriented budget-making procedure made it possible for scholars, no matter academic employees on the campus or visiting scholars, to pursue their researches with no financial worries behind. The scholar-friendly environment surrounds this campus can been seen and detected everywhere. It is of no burden for a student or a scholar to find a library within a 10 minutes’ walk, or a 5 minutes’ cycling ride, which a phenomenon is pretty common in Harvard.

Harvard also have established a well relationship with surrounding residents. The campus of Harvard is fence-less, open to the public, allowing citizens to enjoy their beautiful gardens, daily life facilities and college-linked museums. It has been a successful model for scholar-civil co-operation, as the campus is open to citizens and the spirit of a university can be spread.

The visit in Harvard taught me a lot. It is an irreplaceable chance for Chinese students and scholars to observe how a world-class university organises. The successful case of Harvard can be a lesson for Jilin University and School of Philosophy and Sociology, in the continuing efforts of establishing double first-class disciplines.

I appreciate the School in providing me this opportunity to visit Harvard University, both Fairbank Center for China Studies and Harvard-Yenching Institute. This experience shall be a treasure for me myself.
