Time is slipping away! During the past two months, I have participated in the course ‘Modern Social Theory’ which is organised by Oxford Prospects Programmes. I am so appreciated for Dr Hande Güzel who have taught us the predominant themes and the most prominent figures that have been influential in the development of these themes in modern social theories. The course broadens our vision, shapes our understanding, and cultivate self-learning spirit, which are all essential in advanced education and academical research.

In addition, it improves my English expression and communication. I don't dare to speak English with others because I 'm not good at it. However, this course provides me with a precious to promote my academical expression in English. I am also interested in the tutorial form which is held every week. It is the first time I have absorbed so much knowledge from self-reading and discussing with tutor and my classmate Frank in the tutorials. Through learning what tutor has taught, reviewing literatures she provides, continuously discussing, reflecting and writing, I have learned the developmental trajectory of different social theories with diverse themes, so as to form a comprehensive and critical understanding.

What attracts me most is the teaching styles of our tutor. Hande Güzel decides to teach us social theories and critical thinking in a busy but engaging way. She asks us for what the most interesting and challenging part is in the readings, finds our shortcoming and twinkle in our summaries and then discusses with us in the tutorial. I believe she is so admirable owing to equal respect, open-mindedness and encouragement towards students that they set examples for us learning.

At last, I really appreciate all the teachers and associated organizers partaking in this programme. Moreover, I also appreciate the experience with classmate Frank. Although we come from different grades, we still have many meaningful discussions and fruitful conversations.
