How time flies so fast! During the past one month, I have participated in “Development of Scientific Research and Academic Competency” workshop with Imperial College London and University of Cambridge. I am so appreciated for Dr Mark Perkins and Dr Helal Ahmed who have taught us academic writing skills, academic presentation skills and critical thinking. The course broadens our vision, shapes our understanding, and cultivate teamwork spirit, which are all essential in advanced education and academical research.

In addition, it improves my English expression and communication. I don't dare to speak English with others because I 'm not good at it. However, this course provides me with a precious to promote my academical expression in English. I am also interested in the multidisciplinary content set by two professors. It is the first time I have absorbed much knowledge from subjects beyond my major like philosophy, psychology, linguistics and so on in such a direct way. Through learning what teachers have taught, reviewing literatures they provide, continuously discussing, reflecting and writing with groupmates, I have learned the basic information of different theories, models and taxonomies rooted in diverse disciplines, so as to form a comprehensive and critical understanding.

What attracts me most is the teaching styles of two tutors. Dr Mark takes us on his long but rewarding journey to academic writing skills, while Dr Helal decides to teach us academic presentation skills and critical thinking in a busy but engaging way. Both of them are so admirable owing to equal respect, open-mindedness and encouragement towards students that they set examples for us learning.

At last, I really appreciate all the teachers and associated organizers partaking in this workshop. Moreover, I also appreciate the experience with classmates, especially for our group members: Lettice, Helia, Lesley and Townsend. Although we come from different major and different grade, we still have many meaningful discussions and fruitful conversations.
