Tutorial Programme 2022 (Online) at University of Cambridge, UK (18)

I’m interested in epistemology and It’s a good opportunity and great honor to attend this academic program which mainly focuses on some questions in epistemology.

The teacher Tom is the most experienced and talented teacher. He gave us 5 lectures, which focus on the varieties of knowledge, the Gettier problem, the problem of induction,  the problem of other minds and the problem of skepticism, which are the most important issues in philosophy. He was very responsible and kind, and he had a lot of teaching experience. The teacher Helal was also an experienced teacher, he told us how to think and read in a critical way, which helped a lot in reading and thinking about philosophical questions.

The final test and presentation was a great challenge for me because I never use English to put an academic lecture or presentation at all, so it gave a quiet pressure on me. But luckily, after adequate preparation, I accomplished my performance very well and learned a lot from the professor and other schoolmate's questions. Generally speaking, my final presentation is about the Regress Problem. This problem can be simply put as follows: Our belief is based on some reasons, but if those reasons are challenged, it seems that you need other reasons for your reasons to make your belief justified. And there is a regress threatening: You need reasons for your reasons, and you need reasons for those reasons, and so on. But it does not seem as if any of us could ever have this endless supply of reasons. And most importantly, it seems that we can’t have any justified inferential knowledge due to the endless pathway in finding reasons. Then I come up with a view named Infinitism and hold that maybe Infinitism is a promising solution to solve the regress problem.

All in all, I really love this lecture and hope I have the opportunity to attend this programme in Britain again.
