Hailin Wu was born in Changchun city of Jilin province in 1978. She currently serves as the Secretary of the Department of Sociology at the School of Philosophy and Sociology of Jilin University and used to be the vice dean of the Department of Sociology. She is an associate professor, master supervisor and visiting scholar of Stanford University(2014-2015). She received her PHD in sociology at Renmin University of China in 2010 and got her M.A. in sociology at Jilin University in 2004. Her main area of research is Sociology of Organization, Network Sociology and Sociology Theory. She teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate courses such as "The theory of Western Sociology", "Sociology of Organization" and "The Forefront of Contemporary Social Theory".

She had finished a project supported by The National Social Science Fund of China about the Ideology Integration in Danwei Organization. Her current research focuses on the Construction of Smart Community supported by MOE(Ministry of Education in China) Liberal arts and Social Sciences Foundation. She had participated in 3 major projects of The National Social Science Fund of China and 2 major projects of MOE Liberal arts and Social Sciences Foundation and co-operated several social surveys and social practice activities in the past ten years. Based on it, she finished 1 book and published 15 articles in academic journals, many of them were cited.

In the last few years, she won the second prize of the Young Teachers’ Teaching Contest of Jilin University in 2012 and in 2013 won the second batch of “Spring Seedling Talent” award for excellent scientific research in Jilin Province. The "Theory of Western Sociology" course was supported by the project of The Construction of High-quality Courses of the college in 2018. In 2019, she won "Teaching Excellence Quality Award” of Jilin University in 2018-2019 academic year and in the same year won the third prize in the 3rd "Fei Xiaotong Field Investigation Award" essay competition of China.
